"Sometimes, in fashion, you just need to get inspired. (Especially when the red carpet and runway scenes slows down for the holidays!) So the other day, I decided to go on a vintage store hunt. Looking at styles of the past is always a great way for me to predict what's up and coming. The most inspirational store I found was Marlene Wetherell Vintage Fashion and Photography. It was so much fun to see iconic pieces like Chanel jackets and YSL blouses--all the major pieces from fashion history, sitting right there in her shop! I asked Marlene what the most sought-after item was in her store, and she shared with me that all of the girls that come in are looking for short, sheer, floral dresses or skirts, pairing them with all black underneath. And for her top selling trends? Cocktail party dresses, lucite accessories, jumpsuits, and lame (metallic) fabrics. She also shared her top 5 vintage shopping tips: Buy Something Timeless Make sure that if you're buying a label, you're buying an iconic piece--something that won't lose value over time. Purchase a Quality Piece When you're vintage shopping, look for something that’s a quality item—not something that will fall apart after one wear! Don’t be Afraid to Make it Modern If you like the fabric or the idea of a piece, use alterations to update it and make it more modern. Find Your Era All vintage shop owners seem to focus on a specific time period, so find a shop that suits your personal taste (Personally, I’m more of an 80’s girl). Don’t Go Vintage-Crazy The key to wearing vintage “right” is mixing it with modern pieces, so don’t wear vintage head to toe. Otherwise, you might end up looking like you took a step out of a time machine."
